About
We are a freestanding emergency room on North El Mirage Road, open every hour of every day, and we exist so that people in this part of the West Valley do not have to drive across the valley with chest pain.
That is most of it. The rest of this page is the detail that usually only comes up after you arrive, which seems like the wrong time to find out.
A full-scope emergency room, to Arizona standards. Not an urgent care, not a hospital, and not a pediatric emergency room — though we treat children every day.
What that means in practice:
24/7/365. Walk in — no appointment and no referral, ever.
Every visit, at every hour.
CT, X-ray and a full laboratory on site. Ultrasound is called in from a mobile service.
If you need a hospital bed, arranging the transfer is part of what we do.
That last point is the one people are most surprised by, so it is worth saying twice: we are an emergency room, not a hospital. Most visits end with people going home. When a visit needs to end in a hospital bed, getting you there is part of what we do.
The ambulance bay is part of that. Crews bring patients here, and it is also the door you leave from if a transfer is what you need.
El Mirage sits in a part of the West Valley where the nearest hospital emergency department is not close, and the cities around it — Surprise, Youngtown, Sun City, Sun City West, Peoria, Glendale, Litchfield Park — have two populations that need an emergency room nearby for opposite reasons.
Which is why so much of what we see is children: fevers, falls, breathing trouble, scorpion stings.
For whom the things that bring people to an emergency room — chest pain, a fall, dehydration in an Arizona summer — are both more likely and less forgiving of a long drive.
Our own sign carries the local schools on it, which is a small thing and also the honest version of what being the emergency room in a town looks like.
For both groups the distance to care is not an abstraction. It is the reason a freestanding emergency room in El Mirage makes sense at all.
Emergency care has a reputation for financial surprises, and it is earned. Our approach:
We honor in-network insurance benefits for emergency care.
We do not balance bill patients for emergency care they have received.
An Explanation of Benefits is not a bill. It is a statement from your insurer. If something arrives that you do not understand, call our billing team on (480) 339-4825 and ask — that is what they are there for.
And the part most emergency rooms leave out: an emergency room visit bills at emergency rates. If you have a sore throat, an urgent care will cost you less and is the right choice. If you have chest pain, cost is the wrong thing to be weighing. We wrote a page about how to tell the difference.
If it might be an emergency, treat it as one. You are not expected to diagnose yourself.
Call 911 rather than driving if someone cannot travel safely or is getting worse quickly. An ambulance starts treatment on the way.
You can call and ask. We cannot diagnose over the phone, but we can usually tell you whether what you are describing belongs here. (480) 237-4922

About your bill, before you worry about it
If something arrives from your insurance company after your visit, it is almost certainly not a bill. It is an Explanation of Benefits — a statement of what they paid. The large number on it is not what you owe.
For emergency care, federal law limits your share to the ordinary in-network copay, coinsurance and deductible your plan already sets. We do not bill you for the difference, and we never will.
If anything you receive is unclear, call us before you pay it. Our billing team would rather explain a statement than have you pay something you do not owe.
